Have you ever sat in a packed Sunday School room and shared your opinions and ideas and have some obnoxious person sitting in the back of the room constantly "booing" you?
I mean what kind of person boos someone else at church?
Seriously.Who.Does.That?
Oh. Right. That was me.
Now I'm not going to give you a whole run down of what the conversation was about, but what I will say is that the words "good" and "debt" were used in the same sentence. When the idea of good debt versus bad debt came up I swear it was like I was involuntarily "booing"... I had no control over it and therefore cannot be held responsible for my actions.
It still makes me twitchy just thinking about it. I keep checking my body for a rash, because at any moment I could break out!!
As Hotsauce so calmly stated, when asked why we were shaking our heads every time this concept came up, "The borrower is slave to the lender."
It does not say, "The borrower is only slave to the lender when the debt is a bad idea."
You see there's this myth that, for instance, student loans, are good debts to have. Whicka, whicka, whhhhhatttttt???" I've had a student loan for well over ten years now and I've never thought, "Wow. I sure love paying this. What a good debt this is!!!"

Romans 13:8 says, "Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law."
You can't owe nothing if you owe something!
I cannot find a place in Scripture where is says that debt is good. Can you?
Hotsauce paid his own way through college. His parents helped out as much as they could, but for the most part he cleaned hundreds of pots and pans to avoid taking out a loan. I, on the other hand, got every loan available and borrowed as much as I could from every loan. We're still paying on my loans.
Anyone want to take a guess at which one of us has regrets? Now, imagine I would have paid my own way through college and we weren't paying interest on ten year old loans. Ugh. I don't even want to think about it!
So, perhaps, you believe that there is good debt ...but I just don't buy it anymore!
In fact, I boo in the face of debt!
